Hey, Again, It's the beechgrove group again, we'd like to post our rough draft of our speech on this blog for you to read (P.S. We're Definetly not done)
My partners and I are here to tell you why Gabriel Dumont (B.1837, D.1906) is the greatest aboriginal Canadian. He has done many amazing War efforts, and was a normal person who did great things. If anyone, he is deserving of The Greatest Aboriginal Canadian title. We have researched him and are going to tell the great things we found out.

Firstly, he was the leader of the Métis people from the red river settlement, which is now western Canada. In 1885 he led a small Métis army into war in the Northwest Resistance. This was his most recognisable effort, but he had a very interesting past. In 1860 he was the leader of a group of Métis hunters, and in 1872 he opened a ferry service across the South Saskatchewan River. Although he never learned to read or write, he made up for that with knowing 6 different languages.

When he was only 14, he received a military honour from the leader at the time, and led a small group of Métis people into a skirmish with a group of Sioux peoples. The Métis won the battle and ran the Sioux out of their territory. For many more years he led Métis military forces into victory. In 1873 they made him the leader of the entire group of Métis people. He remained leader for many things, trying to convince the government to recognize the Métis people as their own government, and that they should be treated as such.

He also persuaded Louis Riel to come back to Canada, and support the Canadian Métis people. He was a great person, who did do some non-saint-like things, like smoking, drinking, etc. but that just shows that you don’t have to be perfect to be a hero.

Hope You Got something from this,
M.B.S.
